Getting there and other practical things

Branscombe is on the south Devon coast between Sidmouth and Lyme Regis. It's about 25 miles to the east of Exeter.

By car

From London: M4/M5: turn off just before Exeter, junction 30 onto A3052 Sidmouth/ Seaton/ Lyme Regis.

Or:

A 303 (later A 30) – turn off at Honiton. Go through Honiton and take the left at the first roundabout after the town to Seaton (A375). After about three miles, turn left opposite the Hare and Hounds pub and follow the road all the way to its junction at the A3052. (About 6 miles). Turn left onto the A3052 and then drive along for a mile or so. There are several right turns to Branscombe. It doesn’t really matter which one you take. They all go down into the village.

By train

Waterloo to Axminster direct (2 hours 50 mins).

Get a cab to Branscombe (about £20) and get the driver to take you all the way to the caravan.
You may want to go shopping at the Tesco which is a few minutes walk from Axminster station. You could then get a cab from Tesco.

Shopping

In Branscombe, there is a shop at the Sea Shanty cafe on the beach. Order baguettes, croissants etc and newspapers the day before.

The other shop is the post office up near the church. This has quite limited supplies.

Supermarkets: Tesco and Co-op in Honiton and Axminster. Waitrose just after Sidmouth off the main road. Co-op in Seaton. There’s a good street market in Honiton every Tuesday and Saturday. Honiton is also very good for antiques.

You can also buy fresh vegetables from a house at the top of the village just past the Fountainhead on the right. There’s a sign outside. And you can buy fresh crabs from John the fisherman’s house next to Great Seaside.

There’s a very good cheap shop in Seaton – the Rainbow stores - opposite the Co-op car park (park in here). It’s great for tools, clothes, shoes, wetsuits, garden and household stuff, toys, art materials – all very cheap.
