The village

Branscombe has:
  • two great pubs serving very good food and local beer (Branoc ales brewed in a barn near the beach)
  • a working thatched forge
  • a church dating back to the 12th century
  • a working water mill
  • a National Trust woodfired bakery (now a cafe)
  • a donkey sanctuary.

Branscombe beach

The beach:
  • is on a World Heritage coastline with dramatic cliffs
  • has very clean water for swimming
  • has a shop and cafe in the thatched Sea Shanty tea rooms
  • features mackerel fishing on calm days - from Branscombe's only fishing boat
  • has fresh crab available from the fisherman's cottage
  • has fantastic walks - for example, over Beer Head to the neighbouring village of Beer where you can buy fish just landed by the little fishing fleet.
