Branscombe beach from Hooken Cliffs, on the walk to Beer
The village
Branscombe has:
- two great pubs serving very good food and local beer (Branoc ales brewed in a barn near the beach)
- a working thatched forge
- a church dating back to the 12th century
- a working water mill
- a National Trust woodfired bakery (now a cafe)
- a donkey sanctuary.
Branscombe beach
The beach:
- is on a World Heritage coastline with dramatic cliffs
- has very clean water for swimming
- has a shop and cafe in the thatched Sea Shanty tea rooms
- features mackerel fishing on calm days - from Branscombe's only fishing boat
- has fresh crab available from the fisherman's cottage
- has fantastic walks - for example, over Beer Head to the neighbouring village of Beer where you can buy fish just landed by the little fishing fleet.
